About Mathew James Crothers
Mathew James Crothers was a young man with a big heart and a deep sense of kindness. He touched the lives of many in South Glengarry through his compassion, friendships, and willingness to help others.
Students and staff from SJ McLeod Public School and Char-Lan District High School continue to remember Mathew for the positive impact he had on those around him. His legacy is one of generosity, inclusion, and love.
Mathew's Toy Mountain was created in his honour over 20 years ago, bringing joy to children during the Christmas season. Today, that mission has grown into the Mathew James Crothers Charity—expanding support through scholarships and community programs.
Through this charity, Mathew's spirit continues to inspire hope, kindness, and opportunity for children and families in our community.

Since its inception, the Mathew James Crothers Charity has celebrated numerous proud moments and made a tangible difference in the lives of children and families. We've had the privilege of helping children at Christmas time with toys, ensuring no child goes without during the holidays.
Beyond the festive season, we've extended our support to children facing illness throughout the year, providing comfort and assistance when it's needed most. As the school year draws to a close, we proudly award scholarships to deserving students, helping them pursue their educational dreams.

Our vision for the future
Looking ahead, the Mathew James Crothers Charity dreams of expanding our reach and deepening our impact within the community. Our primary goal is to significantly increase the number and value of our scholarships.
We're actively seeking to raise enough funds to offer $5,000 scholarships, specifically allocated to support diverse educational paths. We envision scholarships for children pursuing higher education, for those with intellectual disabilities, and for individuals entering fields such as police foundations or other community-focused professions.
Our aspiration is to grow beyond three scholarships, aiming to provide even more opportunities for children to reach their full potential in the coming years.
